W.I.T.C.H. || Day 2

Today we have the topic of:
W.I.T.C.H.

Only 6 days till Halloween!

For those who don't know this is an Italian comic series about 5 teen girls who are chosen to guard a sacred place called Kandrakar. For that purpose each are given different magical powers.

Will (red hair) is given the role of leader and protector of the Heart of Kandrakar, which is that little jewel-like ball she has in the poster and what gives them powers.
Irma (brown hair) is given the power of controlling and manipulating Water.
Taranee (woc, black hair) is given the power of controlling and manipulating Fire.
Cornelia (blonde hair) is given the power of controlling and manipulating Earth.
Hay Lin (asian, black hair) is given the power of controlling and manipulating Wind.
As you can see their names form the acronym of "witch" thus the name of the series. Quite nice.

The series were really really successful (first published in 2001) and rapidly spread through out Europe. By 2005 it had been released in 65 countries already. The last issue was published on 2012.

These comics cover my transition from childhood to adolescence. I own several of the issues (not all unfortunately) and they're really quick and fun reads. They feature magic and girls kicking arse, friendship and betrayals... there's everything!

A TV series was made and released too but at some points it deviates from the books and well... let's just say I am a big fan and advocate for the comic books so I highly recommend reading the books instead of watching the TV show.

If you're feeling like you need a more light-hearted Halloween read please consider W.I.T.C.H.! For most of use some of the "relationship" issues and crushes will sound very childish as the girls are around 14 years old in the series but the important thing is the plot and the messages of friendship! If you have children/cousins/nephews/nieces they could also be great reads for them :)

Here's a link online where you could read the books:
