MONDAY POEM: AND NOW YOU'RE MINE by Pablo Neruda

Happy Monday my dear blog and book readers, today we will leave the great mind of romanticism and dive into the 20th century poetry. As it is betting colder and colder outside, today please travel with me to the always warm and always sunny South America and enjoy a beautiful love poem.
Today we are reading

AND NOW YOU'RE MINE BY PABLO NERUDA

Let's get to know Pablo Neruda:
Pablo Neruda  (born Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, July 12, 1904 – September 23, 1973) was a poet and a diplomat. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 10 years old. He wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems. During his lifetime, Neruda occupied many diplomatic positions and served a term as a Senator for the Chilean Communist Party. He later went into exile with his wife as the president threatened to arrest him. In his lifetime he received Nobel Prizes for both Peace and Literature.

And Now You're Mine

And now you're mine. Rest with your dream in my dream.
Love and pain and work should all sleep, now.
The night turns on its invisible wheels,
and you are pure beside me as a sleeping amber.

No one else, Love, will sleep in my dreams. You will go,
we will go together, over the waters of time.
No one else will travel through the shadows with me,
only you, evergreen, ever sun, ever moon.

Your hands have already opened their delicate fists
and let their soft drifting signs drop away; your eyes closed like two gray
wings, and I move

after, following the folding water you carry, that carries
me away. The night, the world, the wind spin out their destiny.
Without you, I am your dream, only that, and that is all.

Please first listen to the video version, because what they did in the video they turned the poem into a dialogue, which I think is so smart to do! Because love is a dialogue no? Never ending dialogue between two people. The poem (together with the video) just takes me to sunny Santiago or Lisbon and I imagine this modern, yet classic couple, walking around separately because they had a fight but they still love each other and they cannot do anything else but want one another to see the beautiful city with them, despite being in a fight. Wow there's a short story in the making right there! But nonetheless,  this poem is so warm and so cozy and sunny, don't you agree? It bring nothing but smile to your face, nothing but good emotions and nothing but gushy, fuzzy, butterflies and absolute happiness!

What did you think of AND NOW YOU'RE MINE?
