BLURB:
Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call her the Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a time when vampires are protected by law—as long as they don't get too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anita agrees—with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting—to help figure out who and why.
Trust is a luxury Anita can't afford when her allies aren't human. The city's most powerful vampire, Nikolaos, is 1,000 years old and looks like a 10-year-old girl. The second most powerful vampire, Jean-Claude, is interested in more than just Anita's professional talents, but the feisty necromancer isn't playing along—yet. This popular series has a wild energy and humor, and some very appealing characters—both dead and alive.
So my friend and I once said that we should try this series as it is very famous. Took me about 1 years to get to it but yeah, I finally did!
THE WORLD: Okay so the world in this book for me was rather disturbing. I mean it is in a way rather just like ours except with vampires out in the open. Yeah, you would say hey it is just like Sookie True Blood series. Well, no. In this world vampires are uncontrollable and all powerful and basically they rule everything but people are oblivious. Yeah, as I said super confusing. I still do not really get it.
CHARACTERS: The main character is named Anita Blake and is an animator aka she can raise people from the dead and well yeah make them zombies. She works for this company which basically specializes in this kind of thing. But she also used to kill vampires. So one day basically she get involved with local vampires who want her to find the killer of some high class vamps. Yeah, sounds pretty simple right. Well again no it is not. So there is this Jean-Claude vampire (what kind of vampire name is this???) who sorta has a thing for Anita, or at least I think so, it is not clear. He tricks her by claiming a soul of her friend so she has to go meet this Master vampire Nikolaos, now keep in mind Nikolaos is a girl like young girl. Anyway, so she threatens Anita's friend and so Anita has to go find this killer. She gets to this weird place where people have sex or drink blood of each other I did not really get it. Additionally, she gets to raise a Zombie for other animator. Basically let me tell you one thing - this was the most confusing book I have ever read. The character are way over the top, Anita for example does not follow any character development, she is constantly shifting. The vampires do not even get me started. Supposedly they are super powerful and can basically slave human just by looking at their eyes and then boom there is a human who is killing these all bad ass powerful vamps. One big confusion is all I can say.
LOVE: As I mentioned I am seriously not sure if there was love in this book. I would think maybe but maybe it was just a vamp way. Weird stuff.
PLUS: This was a short book when you think about it. Even tho it did feel like I was reading it for a year.

MINUS: Everything. You just cannot follow the story at all.
OVERALL: Definitely not continuing with the series. As I said the most confusing book I have ever read.
