SYNOPSIS: Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

I have waited for this book forever. The bookshop I ordered it has a discount card and I had to wait three weeks for it to be activated. In other words, I had to wait three weeks to be able to order this book!

I have read mixed opinions towards the third and final book in Dark Elements trilogy. Some people really loved it and some said it was a little bit meh. What did I think? I have to sadly admit I am on board with the 'meh' people.

THE WORLD: The human world must be protected from demons at all cost. People must stay ignorant to the fact that Hell and Heaven exist. They must have free will. The Wardens aka killers of demons and savers of human kind are actually a bunch of arrogant and over-self-loving heaven rejects. Yes, they are actually fallen angels turned to stone and then given a chance to work for their sins.

Demons, on the other hand, are sorta badass not so bad creatures. Frankly, demons are better than Wardens in this book. Do not get the logic. But the top to me are Alphas. I do not even know what they are, some sort of supposed angels who are cruel and cannot get their heads out of their asses.

CHARACTERS: Layla is now some badass nobody knows who. She used to think of herself as part Warden and part Demon. Now she is some kind of immortal aka original fallen angel type of creature with feathered wings. Her mother is Lilith aka the worst creature in the entire world. Her father is Warden who tries to kill her multiple times. Her brother and son is Lilin who wants to brig apocalypse upon the world. And you know what? Despite her mommy dearest not giving a damn about her and her daddy trying to kill her all the time she still considers them her parents. And Lilin her brother. Wake up girl, just because they have same blood as you does not define them as your parents. Parents are so much more! Hrrr. Next we have Roth, the super sexy blah blah demon who is obsessed with Layla. I really loved Roth in first book but now he is just annoying. He has no character to him anymore. He is literary there as a tool to have sex with Layla and to be her bodyguard. And do not ask me to talk about Zayne, I really pity the fans who were shipping Layla with Zayne because poor Zayne he doesn't exist in this book.

LOVE: The cat is out of the bag. Layla is with Roth in first 50 pages. The rest 350 pages are about Layla having sex with Roth. YA type of sex. I am not saying you have to have another Fifty Shades crap but come on the way it is written...

PLUS: I don't know anything much for the big plus right now. I'm sorry.

MINUS:  Layla. And the story itself. I read it, I finished the series. Yay me. If anybody asks me about it in a week I am not sure I will be able to recall any of it. Except for Layla's feathered wings of course. That was said like hundred times in the book.

EXTRA: I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars but really just because the story is done. I had very high expectations for this final installment and none of them were sadly fulfilled.

What do you guys think about EVERY LAST BREATH?

  1. I was pretty disappointed with Every Last Breath. I was really looking forward to Layla going down into hell and confronting her mother. It was such a let down. Nothing exciting happened and the things that did happen were brushed over so lightly. I was also so annoyed about Zayne missing from this book. Urgh, and how they hinted at a relationship with him and someone else. I will stop there before I start getting ranty LOL.

    1. I know right! It was such a disappointment, as the last book in trilogy I expected something big to happen and in the end it was really just Layla and Roth sex and Layla crying :/

  2. I haven't read these books yet so I don't quite have an opinion, but I've heard mixed things about this one as well. How did you like the first two?

    1. Me too, I haven't heard of them before a fellow book blogger started a read-along and so I thought demons angels and all that why not. But then I also saw lately that many people loved this series so maybe I am just really demanding. The second book was torture for me, like really torture. But first one was really nice ;)

  3. Sorry that this ending wasn't what you could hope it would be... I have heard that some people have been saying this book is simply a romance set in a demon kind of world and that it doesn't really have much of anything to do with the world, and more so about their love... not up my street really :/

    1. Yes I actually agree, not much is happening in this book when you think about it, it is more based in the world of Roth's bedroom than anything else :/
