SYNOPSIS: Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

As most of you know I have been catching up on Dark Elements read along! I was very very much not a fan of the way the first book ended so for me to start the second one was rather...well stressful.

What happened to Jennifer L. Armentrout when she was writing this book? Seriously, an alien abduction or worse? She was really not her self, trust me.

THE WORLD: Demons from Hell, Wardens sent from Heaven to kill Demons and worse...It is based on Earth and in human world but there is really a little number of humans involved in this book. It is really a Demons and against Wardens type of world.

CHARACTERS: Layla is a teenager half demon half warden girl who thinks of herself as a something terrible creature. She hates her demon half because she thinks it makes her evil and tries to act like a full blooded warden even they are disgusted with her. I think you get the idea. Oh and have I told you she is also super whiny and when things go really wrong and people start dying she automatically starts pointing finger at herself even it is absolutely illogical for her to be causing it. As Lilin said in the end "I was starting to doubt your intelligence...". I get Layla has been bullied all her life and it was Wardens who made her hate herself and treated her like she was some rubbish lying on the ground but still...I like strong lead characters and this series are really lacking one. Two male characters: Roth and Zayne are well...Zayne in the first book was portrayed like Layla's brother and Roth as a hot badass demon. Well all of that went terribly wrong. Now I had to read about Zayne using Layla in her weak moments and basically abusing her and Roth being a totally arrogant lazy asshole. How nice! Well yes, that was sarcasm. I hate Zayne, it makes me sick reading about him and Layla and I will never forgive Jennifer L. Armentrout for ruining Roth. There is just no going back.

LOVE: The love in this book is sickening. I am sorry, Zayne first pretend to be Layla's brother and then he goes all full sexual on her touching her body and blah....how is it not sickening? Okay, I get it, sometimes writers can pull it off but I am sorry Jennifer L Armentrout is brilliant but she did not pull it off at all. And Roth...

PLUS: Well for once this book had a good ending... I am reading the next book just because of the ending. That was truly great!

MINUS: Abbott and the Wardens...they supposed to be sent from Heaven right...but they end up torturing and almost killing Layla...like bullying her all her life and I mean serious bullying was not enough. Now they go and torture her. Are we sure Demons are the evil ones?

EXTRA: I was actually at some point texting Cody asking when this torture will end. I have to admit, I have to thank her for getting me through first 300 pages.

What do you guys think about STONE COLD TOUCH?

  1. Thank you for saying Zayne is her 'brother' because that is basically what it is, I spend the entire book completely frustrated with their 'romance'. How could JLA even have people choose between Roth & Zayne? Roth's sudden personality disorder made my head hurt.. Completely agree with you about the end, I totally didn't see it coming at all!
    Great review <333
P.s All Wardens must die for that torture scene, TEAM DEMON ALL THE WAY.
