SYNOPSIS: A princess must find her place in a reborn world.

She flees on her wedding day.

She steals ancient documents from the Chancellor's secret collection.

She is pursued by bounty hunters sent by her own father.

She is Princess Lia, seventeen, First Daughter of the House of Morrighan.

The Kingdom of Morrighan is steeped in tradition and the stories of a bygone world, but some traditions Lia can't abide. Like having to marry someone she's never met to secure a political alliance.

Fed up and ready for a new life, Lia flees to a distant village on the morning of her wedding. She settles in among the common folk, intrigued when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deceptions swirl and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—secrets that may unravel her world—even as she feels herself falling in love.

It was again one of the books everybody was crazy about. If you look on Goodreads the ratings...really how can you not get lured into reading it? Plus a runaway princess is always a fun thing to read about!

I have to admit, I have heard many times that this book has a big twist but what happened to me? I actually went on google and goodreads after I finished this book looking for what was that twist! I seriously did not see any twist in this book! Now I know, the twist was really about who was assassin and who was the prince as the author really smartly gave them different names and played us readers on who was who up till the end. But unfortunately, I kinda saw who was who very soon in the book and for me it was no twist at all. Plus the little BIG thing by the end of the book...also sorta knew it was going to be that way. But let's start from the beginning, shall we?

THE WORLD: Now, when I was googling the twist of this book I came upon a really amazing thing that I did not see myself. From first glance, and well also maybe because I live in Europe, I saw it just only as another dystophian world divided into kingdoms. However, as somebody noticed it actually was a world set in the future after something like nuclear war or so! Now that I think about it, it really makes sense! Amazing!

CHARACTERS: Let's starts with our runaway princess Lia. I have to say she was a likable character but not lovable. She did not annoy me but again I did not think much about her either. Tho, I always imagined her very pretty as on the cover of the book...you have to admit, this cover is gorgeous!
Assassin/Prince - I am not going to tell you guys who was who. You just have to read for yourself! But I will say a few words regarding both characters. Firstly, the assassin is so damn annoying and unlikable. His character made no sense to me, absolutely none! Now the Prince...sweet and falling in love from first sight. Well good for him because I did not care for any of his affairs.

LOVE TRIANGLE: Yes yes yes (rolling my eyes) another love triangle. I think soon I will be saying no to the books just because of the love triangle in them. I mean really, is there a YA book that does NOT have a love triangle? So so annoying.

OVERALL: I picked this book because everybody loved it. Did I love it? I sadly have to say no. Sure, the story was rather easy but somehow it was just not IT. Or maybe it was because I would love much more to read about court than about serving girl's life (Like Red Queen). Just not really that fascinating. But I will most likely read next book, it did after all ended with a cliffhanger. Tho, I kinda have a feeling I know what is coming...

What did you guys think about THE KISS OF DECEPTION?

  1. Ahaha I am so surprised that is not twist! I think it is supposed to do the love triangle and who ended up being who because they are both someone not expected xD Or something like that from other reviews I have read! I am not sure how I feel about the love triangle thing, but I do want to try it, so adding it to my TBR!

  2. I agree about Lia being likeable, but not loveable. And that cliffhanger! I feel like the next book will be either very predictable, or will have yet another plot twist...
