BLURB:
Angel Crawford is a loser.

Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

That is, until the day she wakes up in the ER after overdosing on painkillers. Angel remembers being in an horrible car crash, but she doesn't have a mark on her. To add to the weirdness, she receives an anonymous letter telling her there's a job waiting for her at the parish morgue—and that it's an offer she doesn't dare refuse.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey—just when she's hungriest!

Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

Literally.

EXPECTATIONS: We all know the definition of White Trash, right? Yeah well, I love the stories of those kinds of people. So I kind of expected Angel, the protagonist, to be more like those stereotypes too. I kind of expected some dumb way she became a zombie, and maybe a few murders in a trailer.

THE WORLD: Of course, and how else, this is Louisiana. The home of all things supernatural, and all things reanimated. Be it a cold blooded vampire with thirst for blood. Or, in Angel's case, a barely living, stinking zombie, rotting because it didn't feed on brains recently.

CHARACTERS: Angel Crawford, the protagonist, is a fine young woman, if we'll look past the fact that she is, more or less, what people call white trash. She had more jobs than she cares to remember, and she's on parole. Drugs were her daily concern. So she's not surprised to wake up in a hospital after a massive car crash that she was in. Except, they're saying she's here due to an overdose. And there's not a scratch on her. Without her knowing it, without her consent, or even understanding, hell, not even recollection of such a fact, Angel got drugged, and killed. A high-functioning zombie took pity on her, turned her, anonymously guided her through worst phases of it, and... Here she is. Working in a morgue, and dealing with what seems to be a syndicate for brains.

ROMANCE:  Angel is slowly but surely developing a crush on one of the officers working a car crash case. A car crash that she thought she was in, that she was sure she was in, but had absolutely no proof of. But then there's the boyfriend thing, a man she doesn't care about, and, it seems, a man who doesn't care about her either. Would seem a simple solution, but why then is he trying to help her anyway?

GOOD: This was a very fun and almost funny take on zombies. They're not the regular stuff of nightmares that we tend to read. Instead these are... A lot like vampires, but different, I guess. The book itself was well enough written too.

BAD: I have no idea what's with the hype. Yes, this is a good book, but nothing magical in my humble damn opinion.

OVERALL: It's a good simple read for an easy night in for those of us who seek to see the sun rise, especially in October. One or two scary episodes will not give you nightmares if you do fall asleep, and the general idea of zombies will keep the mood up, since Angel is a pretty well written character, with simple wit to her. Almost the Sookie Stackhouse of the zombie world.

What do you think about MY LIFE AS A WHITE TRASH ZOMBIE?
