MONDAY POEM: THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY by Katherine Kennicott Davis

Happy Monday my dear friends, the holiday season is upon us and I really into the Christmas spirit today so I decided to share with you a special poem/song and one of my most favorite Christmas Carols!

Today we are reading:

THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY BY KATHERINE KENNICOTT DAVIS

Let's get to know Katherine Kennicott Davis:
Katherine Kennicott Davis (June 25, 1892 - April 20, 1980) was a composer, pianist, and author of the famous tune The Little Drummer Boy, which is now known as one of the most popular Christmas songs ever written! The song was originally titled Carol of the Drum and was published by Davis as based upon a traditional Czech carol. It became famous when recorded by the Harry Simeone Chorale in 1958: the recording sailed to the top of the Billboard charts and Simeone insisted on a writer's royalty for his arrangement of the song. Many of her over 600 compositions were written for the choirs at her school. She was actively involved in The Concord Series, multiple-volume set of music and books for educational purposes.

The Little Drummer Boy

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
So to honour Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.
Pum pum pum pum pa rum pum pum
pum pum pum pum pa rum pum pum
pum pum pum pum pa rum pum pum
pum pum pum ahh
Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give a king, pa rum pum pum
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?
(pum pum pum part)
Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,
(pum pum pum part)
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

To me personally there are only couple of other songs that always make me thankful and warm inside around the holidays. This carol I believe reveals how humble people should be. Because today we only think of presents, what to buy, what to get and we lose the true meaning of Christmas. To me Christmas stands for new beginnings, family, being with the ones you love, so this little songs should encourage people to stay a little more humble, maybe concentrate on making a present yourself, by that you would truly show how much you care for someone (if you want we can share gift ideas!).
