SYNOPSIS: Gia Kearns would rather fight with boys than kiss them. That is, until Arik, a leather clad hottie in the Boston Athenaeum, suddenly disappears. While examining the book of world libraries he abandoned, Gia unwittingly speaks the key that sucks her and her friends into a photograph and transports them into a Paris library, where Arik and his Sentinels—magical knights charged with protecting humans from the creatures traveling across the gateway books—rescue them from a demonic hound.

Jumping into some of the world's most beautiful libraries would be a dream come true for Gia, if she weren’t busy resisting her heart or dodging an exiled wizard seeking revenge on both the Mystik and human worlds. Add a French flirt obsessed with Arik and a fling with a young wizard, and Gia must choose between her heart and her head, between Arik's world and her own, before both are destroyed.
This review is part of Thief of Lies book tour at YA Bound. Thanks to the girls and the author for providing me with a copy!

THE WORLD: In this book we find that our world is connected to the Mystik world via spells and entrances at our most distinguished libraries. The Mystik world features Mystik creatures of course, for example Laniars (which we call Vampires) among others and once the worlds were "together" but humans and Mystiks fought all the time and there were human casualties so Wizards (half human) decided to shield the worlds from each other allowing certain portals in the libraries and those portals were to be monitored by Sentinels (half human, half wizards). Sentinels cannot mate together because of some prophecy which says that a child of two Sentinels will destroy the world as they know it, thus they decided that Sentinels would have mandatory betrothals. Ew, that's horrible.

In the book we travel around the world through the libraries, starting in Boston and ending in the Mystik world.

CHARACTERS: The main character is Gianna "Gia" Kearns who is a normal teenager until one day she goes to the library with her friends, Nick and Afton, only to meet some hot guy who's a Sentinel and ending up in a library somewhere else. The hot Sentinel is Arik, the leader of the Sentinel group. Through him Gia gets to be introduced in the Sentinel world and finds out her real lineage –this part resembled the beginning of City of Bones. Anyway, there is also Conemar, a very very evil wizard who is conspiring to get the Tetrad (some sort of super power) and his intentions are to rule the world and to kill all the Sentinels, councils, etc who stand on his way.
There are many many many more characters, it's like a soap opera but I better not get in too deep. Wait, I'll mention Bastien because he's right in the middle of a problem (it may be only my problem if you get what I mean) and he's the soon-to-be High Wizard of the French Council.

LOVE: There is insta-love and quite sure there is going to be a love triangle. I hate that. Hate hate hate. Please don't, just make her choose one right away, geez.

PLUS: The libraries!!! I loved reading about the libraries and their description. I wish there were more though because look at this beauties:

Trinity College Library, Ireland

Bibliotheque Nationale de France, France

The Library of El Escorial, Spain

Aren't all of them awesome? There are so many beautiful libraries around the world... I want to see them all, I want to know about them.

I also liked the plotwist and the revelations that happen on the second half. I wonder where it will all lead. I am curious.

MINUS: The insta-love and the fact that the book goes so fast that you feel b*tch-slaped and confused until the second half of the book where things seem to settle a bit. It's one heck of a headache in the beginning.

OVERALL: 3.5 stars. Once I got over all the confusion I was quite enjoying it and even getting close to some characters but unfortunately then the book ended lol I am that lucky... I am curious about the second book! I want to know how it will all turn out!
