BLURB:
What happens when one takes a murderous psychopath and forces them to team up with a cowardly tinkerer? Though not a question that Jeremiah ever expected to ponder, he is nevertheless looking forward to seeing what the aforementioned duo will cook up. Success or failure does not matter to Richard, only that the journey be entertaining.

Things are far less jovial for the one under Tom's 'care,' however. Stuck in the monster-infested wilderness, lacking the usual backup, hunted by the Empire's top brass and tasked with an incredibly vague and obtuse Quest, Boxxy will face a world of uncertainty and adversity. However, this is nothing new. Pain, suffering and loss are things that have been commonplace since day one, and Boxxy is not only entirely undaunted, but also eager to share those valuable lessons with its new 'companion.' With things both shiny and tasty on the line, the crafty killer has every intention of showing that lich who's boss.

Assuming Boxxy manages to find it, of course.

CONTENT WARNING: Profanity, gore, violence, explicit adult content

EXPECTATIONS: I did not like the last book all that much. I thought it was far too immature. But I still kept my hopes up for this one, because it's still a very fun and unique concept to have a mob be the hero.

THE WORLD: After escaping a hunt, Boxxy is on a mission from the God of Probability, to continue on his quest of mass destruction all while seeking shinies and tasties. This is the world of heroes, after all. You're either a craftsman, artisan, or an adventurer who slays things like Boxxy, a mimic in a shape of a large treasure chest. And Boxxy just laid his eyes on yet another dungeon where he suspects there might be treasures, a dungeon core, lots of tasties, and a possibility to level up. Just one problem. Leveling up will trigger an evolution. Boxxy will no longer be this beautiful, perfect shape of a box...

CHARACTERS: Boxxy Morningwood is learning new things, rapidly. Including how to learn new things more efficiently. Which sometimes results in the ever growing company that surrounds him. There's the succubus he calls Tasty, because she tastes very good, but doesn't fill him up any. She's a pervert. She likes being eaten and re-summoned. Then there's Arms, a warrior who is not so much tasty, but very useful. And then there's the kidnapped gnome Fizzles, who got him in all of this trouble in the first place. She's not happy being here, and even more so not happy with Boxxy's means of training, which includes a lot of beatings. But he does keep her safe to the best of his abilities. In fact... It almost seems like Boxxy cares if she lives or dies.

ROMANCE:  No romance other than two demons, a lich that Boxxy dubbed Nasty for her bad bad taste, and Tasty - getting in a jealous argument over Boxxy, for they both seem to have developed feelings for the box that only cares to get food and gold.

GOOD: I do enjoy the concept a lot, a mob, one of those simple-minded enemies of which you meet dozens in any video game ever, suddenly becomes self aware, and decides it wants to do things, like get more gold, find more food.

BAD:  Absolutely unnecessary rape scene that sent a character into suicidal spiral and dismay. There was absolutely no need for this to happen, she had all the plot set for her development as is. It made the rest of the book tough to read up until her assaulter apologized to the best of his abilities, and did his best to remedy his ways towards her. She forgave him, therefore I didn't quit reading. This was still a very disgusting trope to use.

OVERALL: I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth, because I am very upset for Fizzles. I do enjoy how she took control of everything afterwards, and that Boxxy did his best to fix what he could, including excluding her from any further activities that could upset her. He's a brainless box with tentacles, and she's bigger than life to be able to forgive such a thing. If we look past this nasty thing, the rest of the book was very clever, full of interesting adventures, big and small. Boxxy evolved, and realized he feels serious agoraphobia for not having the box shaped body anymore.

What do you think about VORTENA?
