MONDAY TRAVELS: NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN by The Moody Blues

Happy Monday friends! I hope you packed light and got some party clothes, cause this Monday we are one more embarking on a journey!

So today we are in England and we will explore:

NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN

Let's get to know The Moody Blues:
The Moody Blues are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1964, initially consisting of keyboardist Mike Pinder, multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas, guitarist Denny Laine, drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. After some early line-up changes, the band settled on a line-up of Pinder, Thomas, Edge, guitarist Justin Hayward and bassist John Lodge, which would stay together for most of the band's "classic era" through the late 1960s to the early 1970s.
Justin Hayward wrote and composed the song at age 19 in Swindon, and titled the song after a girlfriend gave him a gift of satin bed sheets. The song itself was a tale of a yearning love from afar, which leads many aficionados to term it as a tale of unrequited love endured by Hayward. Hayward said of the song, "It was just another song I was writing and I thought it was very powerful. It was a very personal song and every note, every word in it means something to me and I found that a lot of other people have felt that very same way about it'.

Lyrics:

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I've written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how I love you.

Gazing at people,
Some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through
They can't understand.

Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end,

And I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how I love you.
Oh, how I love you.

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I've written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I'd always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how I love you.
Oh, how I love you.

'Cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how I love you.
Oh, how I love you.

Thoughts:

I heard this song for the first time on a radio when I was going to my parents place. There's a very very beautiful location on a hill where you can see huge lake and a town situated right next to it, and I was driving though it the moment my favorite radio station started playing this and I cannot help but to chase this feeling for years now!

This song has that feeling of a breaking heart, it almost feels like this song is written about that specific moment, that one second when your heart breaks. I dunno, I might be crazy, or I might be an endless romantic. Anyway, let me know what you think guys! Do you know any more songs like this?

Stay Cozy and see you next Monday!
