BLURB:
Angel Crawford is finally starting to get used to life as a brain-eating zombie, but her problems are far from over. Her felony record is coming back to haunt her, more zombie hunters are popping up, and she’s beginning to wonder if her hunky cop-boyfriend is involved with the zombie mafia. Yeah, that’s right—the zombie mafia.

Throw in a secret lab and a lot of conspiracy, and Angel’s going to need all of her brainpower—and maybe a brain smoothie as well—in order to get through it without falling apart.

EXPECTATIONS: I can't say I liked the first book. gave it a fair shot as I see it, but that's about that. It was a very basic mediocre detective, so I wasn't expecting all that much from second book either. I did hope that maybe, just maybe, it picks it up a little bit.

THE WORLD: Somewhere out there in Louisiana Angel works in the morgue, happily stashing away human brains for later meals. Angel's a zombie, yes. But her happy little routine soon gets messed up by the very simple fact, that apparently, many people indeed know about zombies. There's a man who was dead, then killed as a zombie, then got killed again. There's another man who wants his body, so he holds Angel at gunpoint to get it. There's a woman who is working on making fake brains for zombies to eat. There's an ancient zombie uncle who wants to monopolize it. Fun times, yep. But best is still ahead. It is one thing to experiment with zombie parts and see what can they regrow if fed enough, it is a whole different thing to see how a live one will react to what. And Angel is on the radar.

CHARACTERS: Angel, our dear white trash zombie, is fixing her life left and right. She's getting her education, he's not misbehaving no more, she's eating well, and saving brains. So, more or less, she's same old Angel, but cured from everything bad by zombie parasite. Then there's her father, who is too trying real hard to set himself straight. He doesn't know a damn about zombies, nor that is daughter is one, but he sure as hell knows that he'll try his best to be a better dad. And then there's her boyfriend whose name I can't recall anymore, and who just seemed and ass enough for me to not give a damn.

ROMANCE:  Angel and her cop boyfriend are on and off about things. He sure as hell acts like an ass a lot, and she sure as hell is not having any of it. She never was in a good relationship, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know what a good one is supposed to be. Other than this drama, there's nothing else.

GOOD: The detective puzzle was interesting. As every piece fell into place, game changed for the players. Enemies turned friends, and friends turned enemies. In some cases Angel's suspicions didn't come true either, so that threw me off in a good way.

BAD: It's a very basic book. As I said about the first book, I will say so again: exchange zombie for a vampire, and you'll never hear of this book. That's the only thing that makes it somewhat different.

OVERALL: I realized, somewhere midway, that the reason I feel like continuing the story is less so for the plot, but more so for Angel's attitude. She's not rude, she's not mean, but she has a mouth and it seems natural to speak that way. It is because of this one well written woman that I intend to keep on reading the books. It is also because of this well written zombie woman that I can give it this many stars no matter the shortcomings.
