MONDAY TRAVELS: MY MOUTH HOVERS ACROSS YOUR BREASTS by Adrianne Rich

Happy Monday friends! Welcome to another edition of Monday Travels

So today we are in AMERICA and we will explore:

MY MOUTH HOVERS ACROSS YOUR BREASTS

Let's get to know Adrienne Rich:
Adrienne Cecile Rich (May 16, 1929 – March 27, 2012) was an American poet, essayist and radical feminist. She was called one of the most widely read and influential poets of the second half of the 20th century, and was credited with bringing the oppression of women and lesbians to the forefront of poetic discourse.
Her first collection of poetry, A Change of World, was selected by renowned poet W. H. Auden for the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award. She famously declined the National Medal of Arts, protesting the vote by House Speaker Newt Gingrich to end funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Poem:

My mouth hovers across your breasts
in the short grey winter afternoon
in this bed we are delicate
and touch so hot with joy we amaze ourselves
tough and delicate we play rings
around each other our daytime candle burns
with its peculiar light and if the snow
begins to fall outside filling the branches
and if the night falls without announcement
there are the pleasures of winter
sudden, wild and delicate your fingers
exact my tongue exact at the same moment
stopping to laugh at a joke
my love hot on your scent on the cusp of winter

Thoughts:

I want to introduce more of female poets into Monday Travels, so we begin with an absolute badass:
Adrianne Rich!

She fought and wrote about the harsh truth of women life, how they should have been and how they truly wear inside! Such and amazing women to have lived and created!

Just look how bold and open this poem is!  How vivid and detailed it describes the love act, the intimate touch and connection between two people! Wonderful!

We must keep the legacy going and spread the word!

See you next Monday!
