Happy Monday friends! Welcome to another edition of Monday Travels
So today we are in ENGLAND and we will explore:
IF I SHOULD DIE
IF I SHOULD DIE
Let's meet Emily Dickinson
Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886) was an American poet. Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. Dickinson lived much of her life in reclusive isolation. After studying
at the Amherst Academy for seven years in her youth, she briefly attended the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before returning to her family's house in Amherst. Although Dickinson's acquaintances were most likely aware of her
writing, it was not until after her death in 1886—when Lavinia,
Dickinson's younger sister, discovered her cache of poems—that the
breadth of her work became apparent to the public. Her first collection
of poetry was published in 1890.
Poem:
If I should die,
And you should live,
And time should gurgle on,
And morn should beam,
And noon should burn,
As it has usual done;
If birds should build as early,
And bees as bustling go,—
One might depart at option
From enterprise below!
’T is sweet to know that stocks will stand
When we with daisies lie,
That commerce will continue,
And trades as briskly fly.
It makes the parting tranquil
And keeps the soul serene,
That gentlemen so sprightly
Conduct the pleasing scene!
Thoughts:
I love hoe female brain writs poetry.
Simple, to the point and powerful!
This is one beautiful poem!
See you Next Monday!
See you Next Monday!
