BLURB:
In a kingdom by the sea…
In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word.
A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other—but they can never fall in love.
Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter, and the best in her generation. She lives for battle. Shoulder to shoulder with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries—the most powerful of supernatural creatures—teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries turn up murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge—and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held prisoner by the faerie Courts. All Emma, Mark, and Julian have to do is solve the murders within two weeks…and before the murderer targets them.
Their search takes Emma from sea caves full of sorcery to a dark lottery where death is dispensed. And each clue she unravels uncovers more secrets. What has Julian been hiding from her all these years? Why does Shadowhunter Law forbid parabatai to fall in love? Who really killed her parents—and can she bear to know the truth?
The darkly magical world of Shadowhunters has captured the imaginations of millions of readers across the globe. Join the adventure in Lady Midnight, the long-awaited first volume of a new trilogy from Cassandra Clare.
EXPECTATIONS: I wasn't really sure if I want to read Dark Artifices as I was not a big fan of Emma and Julian in last books of Mortal Instruments. Plus after reading Shadowhunter Academy Tales I really needed a break from Shadowhunters. However I did get a book and recently I was in a book event where Cassie signed it and well I felt like now I must read it so I did.
THE WORLD: A traditional shadowhunters world really. If you are not familiar with it I would highly advice and read everything that is out there because frankly reading this series without reading Mortal Instruments is just wrong, you will spoil yourself really much and also many many things will not make sense at all.
CHARACTERS: The spin off series is really about Emma and Julian who are parabatai and who are also in love. As you know it is forbidden for parabatai to be in love and so this is where one of big problems start. However it is not all. Mark is back and he made a deal that he stays with his family for some time and in the end if he does not like it he can go be with Wild Hunt again. So as I already mentioned I don't like neither Emma nor Julian. Well Julian maybe most of them all. To be honest whole Blackthorn family to me is annoying, I just don't see the charm even the kids. But I do like Mark a lot and what was happening to him and all the struggles he had to go though. I think as of right now Mark is my absolutely favorite of this new series.
ROMANCE: Of course Emma and Julian are in love so there is some explicit content here. Plus it turns out Mark is queer and has a relationship with other member of Wild Hunt which I really loved. I mean I ship them really much, I think ever since Magnus of Jem I haven't felt for a character in this series so much .
GOOD: You are back into a Shadowhunter world and if you did read everything that was released before it is like going home. Everything is so familiar and that is always an amazing feeling. Plus Mark, as I already said I love him dearly.
BAD: I still don't like Emma and Julian so for me reading about them is not really that entertaining.
OVERALL: It was alright, I don't think it was however as awesome as everybody says. I also heard that next book is much better but I feel like I need a break from Shadowhunters again.
What do you think about LADY MIDNIGHT?
