EXPECTATIONS: I really loved Firebird trilogy of Claudia Gray and when I found out Spellcaster is about witches I just really had to get it.
THE WORLD: Pretty similar to ours. Actually most of the story takes place in a small town so it even more normal tho it did remind me of Secret Circle. Anyways, the normal is not exactly normal because we have magic in this world too. Magic that is only passed via mother line and only to females. I like the concept but I think in today's word it would be problematic.
CHARACTERS: Our main character is named Nadia. Her mother has just left and her family well her dad and brother decide to move to this little town. Nadia is a teen so of course she has to go to high school where she is new. Additionally she is a witch. However, normally mothers guide their daughters and so they get strong but because Nadia's mother left she is left on her own to learn magic. However, Nadia is not the only one who can magic. There is an evil witch who wants Nadia's magic book and she wants it at any price. Next to Nadia there is Mateo who seems to be cursed. All his family members went crazy. Now let me be frank here, I found most of the characters to be pretty easy to like but at the same time non very memorable. However, this whole book reminded me a lot of L.J. Smith work. The world is very much like Secret Circle world and the main character Nadia is very much like Elena. Only Mateo is just an ordinary guy.
ROMANCE: Of course Nadia starts to have feelings for Mateo and he for Nadia. However there is a bit of Evernight going on here. But I do not want to spoil too much.
GOOD: I like magic and witches so it will always be a pleasure to read any books about them.
BAD: But having in mind what I just said above...this book was not a strong one. I am gonna go on but mainly because it is about witches.
OVERALL: Four stars but only because I like Elena so I obviously like Nadia and the whole Secret Circle town is just something I adore.
