BLURB: The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming…

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

Every time somebody was talking about Monster Calls it was always amazing reviews. Always. So of course I had to get my hands on it myself.

THE WORLD: It is a little bit like our world but also with crazy treas in it. Basically the spirit of tree is magical and yeah...don't really know how to explain.

CHARACTERS: The main character in the book is a boy who's mother is dying from cancer. He is trying to survive it on his own but then he sees this spirit of the tree which wants to scare him. This boy also tends to get violent which is of course is explained by his mother sickness. The mother is not really a character itself but a tool in this book. She is sick. She is dying. That is all. Then we have an evil grandma who from the point of the boy hates him. Really, to me she was just a woman trying to deal with her daughter dying and a violent grandchild. Of course there is a mention of the father but it is a stereotypical father with next family and forgotten son from previous marriage. And then of course there is the tree which well I did not see really its function it the book. It was supposedly helping the boy to overcome his tragedy but really it was just boring.

LOVE: None.

PLUS: None.

MINUS: The book itself. I really did not like it. I think the situation was dealt with in a really wrong way. Especially the school. I know enough of psychology studies to see how stereotypical this story was. Plus the whole letting go thing? What the hell? Made me want to throw the book into the wall.

OVERALL: Was super disappointed and just purely hated the book! Only reason I finished it was because it was short.
